Choosing a hardwood floor is essentially the same as choosing any other floor covering in a home. You need to take into account the different colors, plank widths and visual characteristics of each wood species. There are also a number of technical points to consider:
- What surface will the floor covering be installed on? Is it plywood, OSB, concrete or another covering?
- Which floor will the hardwood be installed on? In the basement, on the first floor or upstairs?
- How important is traffic on occupant floors?
- Will there be any risk of falling objects, water or humidity?
Essentially, solid hardwood represents the original ancestral version of hardwood flooring in Quebec. Installation options are nailed and stapled only. Engineered hardwood is the new generation of hardwood flooring. It allows for a higher percentage of tree utilization, much greater product stability and much larger plank dimensions. It can be installed nailed, stapled, glued or floating.
